Plant Characteristics :
Habit : Erect herb with spinous leaves
Habitat & Ecology : Back mangrove (Non-halophytic) and Mangrove associate, commonly grows in the mangrove forests and its vicinity along river banks and tidal canal sides.,
Occurrence : Found in mangrove and swampy areas of North and South 24- Parganas and Bangladesh (lower Gangetic Delta)

Status : Abundant in the area
Botanical Character : Erect, perennial herb growing upto 1.5 m in clumps; stem glabrous with adventitious stilt roots at the base. Leaves shortly petioled, oblong, spinous, pinnatified, rigid, glabrous; spikes 10-40 cm, terminal, commonly solitary. Flowers mostly opposite, bracteate, bracteolate, sepals 4- outer 2 elliptic, rounded, inner 2 broadly lanceolate, subacute; petals 5, blue, united, 2-lipped, corolla tube short, pubescent within; stamens 4, didynamous, filaments stout, anthers 1-lobbed, bearded; carpels 2, united, ovary two chambered, style short- bifid. Capsules ellipsoid, 2-3 cm long, yellow to brown when mature.
