Plant Characteristics :
Habit : Erect rhizomatous herb
Habitat & Ecology : Terrestrial, Wild, grows well in moist shady places and wastelands.
Occurrence : Available through out the state upto an altitude of 1700 m.

Status : Common
Botanical Character : A perennial rhizomatous herb, leafy stem 2-3 m high, stout, subwoody at base. Leaves spirally arranged, about 30 cm or more long, oblong, acute, thinly silky beneath. Spike dense-flowered, 5-15 cm. Calyx 2-3 cm; bracts ovate, bright red, segments 3, ovate cuspidate. Corolla-segments white with a median yellow band, oblong. Lip white, suborbicular, 5-7 cm, the margins incurved and meeting. Filament long, including the oblong petaloid connective. Fruits capsule , globosely trigonous, red, crowned with the persistent calyx. Seed black.
