Plant Characteristics :
Habit : Rhizomatous herb
Habitat & Ecology : Subaquatic, Cultivated and occasionally wild. Grows well along watercourses, marshy areas.
Occurrence : Througout the state upto 2000 m

Status : Infrequent
Botanical Character : Perennial, erect, aromatic rhizomatous herb; rhizome cylindrical, about 2-3 cm in diameter, much branched, externally light brown but white and spongy within. Leaves distichous, upto 2m long, ensiform, base equitant, nerves parallel, acute, thickened in the middle, margins waved. Peduncle leaf-like and its ensiform continuation is the 15-75 cm long, narrow spathe. Spadix sessile, cylindrical, densely flowered, not completely enclosed by spathe. Flowers small, bisexual, sepals 6, stamens 6, ovary conical, 2/3-celled. Fruits turbinate, prismatic, top pyramidal; seeds oblong, albuminous.
